Schedule: 6 days per week; occasionally 7 days during high-demand periods (e.g., calving)
Compensation: Competitive hourly pay, based on experience

Little Belt Cattle Company is a working cattle operation in central Montana focused on low-stress livestock handling, and responsible land stewardship. We value individuals who take ownership of their work, solve problems independently, and understand that livestock and land management do not operate on a traditional 9–5 schedule.
This position is well-suited for military veterans and individuals with agricultural backgrounds and a strong desire to learn who are comfortable working independently, assuming responsibility, and operating in a remote environment.
This is a non-riding position. Limited riding opportunities may exist; preference may be given to candidates with some horse experience.
Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable, self-motivated Seasonal Ranch Hand to support day-to-day ranch operations. This is an entry-level position; however, applicants must have a background in agriculture or relevant fields and be capable of working independently for extended periods. Position reports directly to the Director of Ranching Operations.
The ranch is remote, and the role requires comfort with solitude, flexible work hours, and requires working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Property, facility, and grounds maintenance
- General ranch maintenance and repair work
- Operation of ranch equipment, heavy equipment, and work vehicles
- Basic mechanical repairs and troubleshooting
- Irrigation setup, operation, and maintenance
- Fence construction, repair, and maintenance
- Road and property maintenance
- Feeding cattle and supporting daily livestock care
- Assisting with cattle handling and processing
- Cattle and horse care
- Driving trucks and trailers for ranch operations
- Completing tasks independently and communicating progress
- Willingness to perform routine and repetitive ranch tasks as required
- Other ranch-specific operational duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
This position involves physically demanding work in an outdoor ranch environment, including:
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs
- Walking long distances over uneven terrain
- Standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing for extended periods
- Safely mounting and dismounting equipment and vehicles
- Working long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, dust, and precipitation)
Safety Expectations
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and training requirements
- Safely operate all equipment, tools, and vehicles
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) as directed
- Maintain situational awareness when working around livestock, machinery, and uneven terrain
- Contribute to a culture of safety, responsibility, and accountability
Qualifications
- Prior ranch, agricultural, maintenance or relatable experience preferred
- Practical problem-solving ability and mechanical aptitude
- Mechanical, carpentry, and welding skills preferred
- Heavy equipment operation experience
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and make sound decisions
- Comfortable working alone in a remote environment
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-minded always
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license
- Background check
- Military veterans with applicable experience are strongly encouraged to apply
- Property maintenance and upkeep experience is preferred
Relevant experience may include maintenance, field operations, or logistics from similar fields
