A week with Bearhug Cattle Co

This month, Little Belt Cattle Co. welcomed Bearhug Cattle Company to the ranch for a week of immersive training. Bearhug Cattle Co. is a nonprofit organization committed to helping military veterans transition into civilian life by equipping them with the skills and experience needed to pursue meaningful careers in agriculture.

Over the course of the week, our team worked side-by-side with Bearhug participants, sharing knowledge, stories, and plenty of early mornings. From the classroom to the corral, the focus was on building real-world ranching skills and confidence that will carry these veterans forward into a new chapter.

Participants gained hands-on experience in cattle care and health, fencing, low-stress stock handling, horsemanship, and pasture roping. They learned how to doctor calves, yearlings, and cows, and received a practical overview of the business side of running a working ranch. The result was a balanced blend of physical work, critical thinking, and the kind of mentorship that sticks with you.

At Little Belt, we believe in the value of purpose-driven work and the power of passing on knowledge. We’re proud to play a small part in helping veterans forge a new path, one fencepost at a time.
